Committee Update and Volunteer Opportunity
I would like to start by thanking Geordie Bauer and Pam Mitchell for their tireless work over the years on behalf of PAQ. Both Geordie and Pam ended their time with the PAQ Committee recently and will be missed.
This has, though, left an opportunity for other members to join our team. If you believe you have the time to share with our pickleball community, we would love to hear from you.
We are currently also looking for a person with an interest in Policies and Governance as well as Club Support.
Please email secretary@pickleballqueensland.org if interested.
New Sub-Committee Members Join PAQ: Welcoming Expertise in IT, Social Media, and Marketing
I would also like to welcome Mark Delany, Irene Krajewska, and Rozina Daniels to our subcommittees.
Subcommittees provide an opportunity for you to work in a particular area of PAQ without having to commit to the broader aspects of being a committee member. Mark is working with me in the area of IT, with Irene and Rozina working with Social Media and Marketing.
Pickleball Tournaments and Leagues Expand: Follow PA’s Code of Conduct for Fair Play
Tournaments and leagues have been a key feature of this year, and just when you thought the calendar was full, another league enters the fray. With the increased number of competitive opportunities, it is important to remember that all sanctioned tournaments are played under PA’s “Code of Conduct.” Please make sure you are familiar with this, as it ensures play is done so in a fair and good-spirited manner.
Queensland Pickleball Champs Approaching: Volunteer Opportunities and Best Wishes to Competitors
Speaking of tournaments, the Queensland Pickleball Champs is just around the corner. I know our tournament subcommittee has put in a huge number of hours recently to maximise the number of playing opportunities, with entries being closed by the time you read this.
I wish all participants well and look forward to meeting up with some of you over the six days of the event.
Please keep an eye on calls for volunteers, as this not only builds our community but also helps minimise the cost of running this event. Feel free to email tournaments@pickleballqueensland.org if you think you can help.
PAQ Plans Budget for 2025-26: Proposed Membership Fee Increase to Support New State Development Officer
With the end of the financial year rapidly approaching, PAQ is setting its budget for 2025-26.
With the continuing growth of membership, the committee has agreed in principle to investigate engaging a part-time ‘State Development Officer’. This role will ensure proactive engagement with clubs and members and help ensure we meet the aims of our strategic plan.
To ensure this position is sustainable, there will likely be a small increase in your annual PAQ portion of the membership fee.
For full members currently paying $20 per annum, we envision an increase to $25 + GST should we proceed. We see this as a positive step to manage and guide pickleball in Queensland.
